Dimethyl terephthalate is mainly used to make polyester resins, which in turn make films and fibers, as well as high-strength polyester insulating coatings. Polyester film is mainly used for electrical insulation materials and production of film (such as film, X-ray film, photographic film and recording tape, video tape, electronic computer tape, etc.). The most common use of polyester resin is to make fibers, used in fabrics, fishing nets, carpets, tire cord, etc. It can also be used in the production of plasticizer dioctyl terephthalate.
