GIS(gas -insulated metal-enclosed Switchgear)

It is directly connected by circuit breaker, disconnector, grounding switch, lightning avoidance device, Pt, CT, bushing and bus, and all of them are enclosed in the grounded metal shell, which is filled with SF6 gas with certain pressure as insulation and arc extinguishing medium.
Compared with conventional open high voltage electrical equipment, GIS has the following advantages and disadvantages:
1) The area and volume of GIS are small. For example, for 126kV grade, the floor area of GIS is 7.6% of that of open type, and the volume of GIS is 6.1% of that of open type, while that of 252kV grade is 4.0% of that of open type, and the volume is 2.1% of that of open type;
2) long maintenance period or no maintenance is required;
3) less environmental impact. It can be used in the harsh environmental conditions such as hot and humid, dirty and cold areas;
4) it is difficult to manufacture and expensive.
