Product Description

 

The main functions and features supported by the OBU are optical signal amplification, online optical performance monitoring, gain locking function, and alarm and performance events monitoring.

Functions and Features

Description

Basic function

Simultaneously amplifies optical signals on a maximum of 80 channels with 50 GHz channel spacing in the C band.

Features a small noise figure.

Supports automatic optical-power commissioning.

Nominal Gain

The nominal gain is 23 dB.

NOTE:

The nominal gain of the OBU board is 23 dB. The actual gain includes the noise, and the value is larger than that of the nominal gain.

Gain lock function

Supports automatic gain control. Adding or deleting channels has no impact on online services.

Transient control function

When channels are added or dropped, the unit can suppress the fluctuation of the optical power in the path to achieve a smooth upgrade and expansion.

Online optical performance monitoring

The MON port is provided for online performance monitoring. A small volume of optical signals is output at the optical port to the optical spectrum analyzer or spectrum analysis board. The optical spectrum analyzer or spectrum analysis board monitors the multiplexed optical signals and optical performance without interrupting services.

Automatic shutdown of output optical power

When no light is received, the board automatically shuts down the laser on the transmit end of the EDFA module to prevent damages to human body.

Variable optical attenuator

TNF1OBU: The VO/VI port on the board can house the SFP EVOA module to adjust the transmit or receive optical power.

TNF2OBU: The board has an internal EVOA module, which adjusts the transmit or receive optical power.

Alarms and performance events monitoring

Monitors performance indexes, including

  • Input and output power of the board
  • Pump driving current
  • Back facet current
  • Pump cooling current
  • Temperature of the pump laser and the board

WDM specifications

Supports DWDM specifications only.
