Pharmacodynamics
Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic, which is resistant to a variety of Gram-negative bacteria (such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Proteus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pasteurella, Salmonella, etc.) and Staphylococcus aureus (Including β-lactamase-producing strains) have antibacterial effects. Most cocci (Streptococcus pyogenes, Pneumococcus, Streptococcus faecalis, etc.), anaerobic bacteria (Bacteroides or Clostridium), Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Rickettsia and fungi are resistant to this product.
Pharmacokinetics
Absorption is rapid and complete after intramuscular injection. The peak plasma concentration is reached within 0.5 to 1 hour. The bioavailability of subcutaneous or intramuscular injection exceeds 90%. It is mainly excreted through glomerular filtration, and the excretion accounts for 40% to 80% of the administered dose. The elimination half-life after intramuscular injection is 1.8 to 3.3 hours for horses, 2.2 to 2.7 hours for calves, 0.5 to 1.5 hours for dogs and cats, 1 hour for cows and pigs, and 1 to 2 hours for rabbits. Sheep, buffalo, cattle and milk Goat is 2.3 to 3.2 hours.

Drug Interactions:
(1) The combination of gentamicin, tetracycline, erythromycin, etc. may have antagonistic effects.
(2) Combined use with cephalosporin, dextran, powerful diuretics (such as furosemide, etc.), erythromycin, etc., can enhance the ototoxicity of this product.
(3) Skeletal muscle relaxants or drugs with such effects can enhance the neuromuscular blockade of this product.

Indications:
Aminoglycoside antibiotics. Used for Gram-negative and positive bacterial infections.

Dosage & Administration:
For Intramuscular injection:
Livestock: single dose, 0.05 to 0.1 ml per 1 kg of body weight, for livestock;
Dogs and Cats: 0.075 to 0.125 ml per 1 kg of body weight, twice a day for 2 to 3 days.

Adverse Reactions:
(1) Ototoxicity. It often causes damage to the vestibule of the ear, which can be aggravated by the accumulation of continuous drug administration, and is dose-dependent.
(2) Occasionally allergic reactions. Cats are more sensitive, and constant amounts can cause nausea, vomiting, salivation, and ataxia.
(3) Large doses can cause neuromuscular conduction blockade. After general anesthesia for dog and cat surgery, when penicillin is used to prevent infection, accidental death often occurs.
(4) Can cause reversible nephrotoxicity.

Precautions:
(1) Gentamicin can be combined with β-lactam antibiotics to treat severe infections, but there are contraindications for mixing in vitro.
(2) This product is combined with penicillin and has a synergistic effect on streptococcus.
(3) It has respiratory depression, so intravenous injection is not suitable.
(4) Combination with tetracycline, erythromycin, etc. may have antagonistic effects.
(5) Combined use with cephalosporins may increase nephrotoxicity.
