Propylene glycol alginate, alias propylene glycol dipropionate.
It is made by deep processing of alginic acid extracted from natural seaweed, and its appearance is white or light yellow powder. After water dissolution, it becomes a viscous colloid. It is often used as a thickening, stabilizing and emulsifier for beverage products.
White or slightly yellowish fibrous powder or coarse powder, almost odorless, tasteless. It is soluble in water and dilute organic acid solution. It is insoluble in organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol and benzene, but partially esterified products can be dissolved in ethanol solution with content below 60%. Its pH value is 3~4 (1% aqueous solution), it is easy to absorb moisture, it turns brown when heated to 55 °C, carbonization occurs at 220 °C, and ashing occurs at 400 °C. Its relative density is 1.46. It does not form a gel or precipitate in an acidic solution of pH 3.4. It has the ability to resist salting out, and it is stable to other metal ions except for the instability of copper, chromium, iron (trivalent), lead and antimony.
