Shikimic acid is a monomer compound extracted from star anise, which has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Shikimic acid affects the metabolism of arachidonic acid and inhibits platelet aggregation, venous thrombosis and cerebral thrombosis. Its molecular formula is C7H10O5, and its CAS number is 138-59-0; its appearance is a white powder, easily soluble in water, but
hardly soluble in chloroform and benzene. The smell is bitter.
