Physical property:
The density of ethanol liquid is 0.789g/cm, the density of ethanol gas is 1.59kg/m, the relative density (D15.56) is 0.816, and the formula (relative molecular weight) is 46.07g/mol.The boiling point is 78.2ºC, the closing flash point is 14ºC, and the melting point is -114.3ºC.Pure ethanol is a colorless transparent liquid with a special fragrance and volatile.The physical properties of ethanol are mainly related to the properties of low carbon linear alcohols.The hydroxyl groups in the molecules can form hydrogen bonds, so ethanol is more viscous and less polar than organic compounds with similar molecular weights. At 20ºC, the refractive index of ethanol was 1.3611. Solubility:can be mutually soluble with water in any ratio;Soluble in ether, chloroform, methanol, acetone, glycerin and other organic solvents. Deliquescence: due to the existence of hydrogen bonds, ethanol has a strong delightability and can quickly absorb water from the air.The polarity of hydroxyl also makes many ionic compounds soluble in ethanol, such as sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, magnesium chloride, calcium chloride, ammonium chloride, ammonium bromide and sodium bromide.But sodium and potassium chloride dissolve slightly in ethanol.In addition, its nonpolar hydrocarbon groups allow ethanol to dissolve some nonpolar substances, such as most essential oils and many flavor, color, and pharmaceutical reagents.

Application:
1. Disinfectants of different concentrations:
    (1) Alcohol above 99.5% by volume is called anhydrous alcohol
    (2) 95% alcohol is used to wipe ultraviolet lamps
    (3) 70% to 75% alcohol is used for disinfection.This is because too high a concentration of alcohol forms a protective coating on the surface of the bacteria, preventing it from entering the body and making it difficult to kill them completely.If the concentration of alcohol is too low, it can enter the bacteria, but it cannot coagulate the proteins in its body, nor can it kill the bacteria completely.Seventy-five percent of alcohol is the best disinfectant
   (4) Between 40% and 50% of alcohol can prevent bedsores
   (5) 25%-50% alcohol can be used for physical antipyretic purposes
