Melting point (ºC): 1450
Solubility: slightly soluble in water. Dissolved in hydrochloric acid.
Solubility of calcium sulfate (dihydrate): 0ºC 0.233; 10ºC 0.244; 18ºC 0.255; 30ºC 0.264; 40ºC 0.265; 65ºC 0.244; 75ºC 0.234.
Calcium sulfate is colorless orthorhombic or monoclinic crystal, monoclinic crystal melting point 1450ºC, 1193ºC orthogonal to monoclinic crystal. It has a density of 2.61 g/cm3 and is slightly soluble in water. It can be decomposed above 1200ºC: 2CaSO4= 2CaO+2SO2↑+O2↑(1200ºC)
Generally produced naturally. It is also a by-product of the phosphate industry and certain other industries.
1. Raw materials for manufacturing cement, calcium sulfate hemihydrate and sulfuric acid. Used as a filler in the paint and paper industry. Used as a chemical fertilizer in agriculture, it can reduce soil alkalinity and improve soil performance.
2. Food grade can be used as a nutritional supplement (calcium fortification), coagulant, yeast food, dough regulator, chelating agent, and also used as a tissue enhancer in canned tomatoes and potatoes, a hardening agent for brewing water, and wine Flavor enhancer, etc.
3. In addition to being widely used as building materials and cement raw materials, gypsum is widely used in rubber, plastics, fertilizers, pesticides, paints, textiles, food, medicine, papermaking, household chemicals, arts and crafts, culture and education and other departments. In areas lacking sulfur resources, it can be used to produce sulfuric acid and ammonium sulfate. Colorless and transparent gypsum can be used as optical material.
