It is a colorless crystal, usually gray with impurities. Lithium hydride is a salt-like hydride with a high melting point and thermal stability. Thermal conductivity decreases with increasing temperature, and varies with composition and pressure. Lithium hydride is flammable and reacts violently with water to produce corrosive lithium hydroxide and hydrogen. Generally not a hydride reducing agent, except in the synthesis of specific metalloid hydrides. For example, silane can undergo a chemical reaction from lithium hydride and silicon tetrachloride through the Sundermeyer process

Purpose:
1. Used as desiccant, hydrogen generator, organic synthesis reducing agent, etc.
2, military use as a source of hydrogen generation. Organic synthesis is used as a reducing agent.
3. In the organic synthesis, lithium hydride is used as a condensing agent, reducing agent, alkylating agent, desiccant, and also a good hydrogen storage material.
4. Lithium deuteride in lithium hydride is the source of the deuterium element fused in the hydrogen bomb.
